When it comes time to refresh a paint color, replace a dull fabric, or pick out a new piece of furniture, it’s often the high-traffic common areas of the home—like the family room and kitchen—that get all the love.

But we’re here to say that the bedroom deserves equal time—after all, you spend a third of your life sleeping! And this means the boudoir is ripe for a makeover, especially now that the new year’s hottest design trends are being revealed.

Ready to turn your sleeping chamber into a vibrant, creative haven? Here are the freshest looks for 2024 from the design pros.

Wallpaper Combos

Wallpaper continues to be a red-hot design trend for 2024 in both the living and dining rooms. But it’s also popping in the bedroom, particularly combinations of two different papers, says Pamela O’Brien, principal designer at Pamela Hope Designs.

“We’re seeing one design behind bookshelves in a room and a second paper on other walls—and not just in the main rooms or study, but also in primary bedrooms, children’s rooms, and even guest suites,” O’Brien explains.

Aim to select wallpapers in the same or complementary color families to make this look work in your space. (For example, pair warm tones like red and orange.) You might also try a paper with a large, bold pattern along with one that’s more delicate so as not to overwhelm the eye.

Pink and Peach

The design minds at Wayfair Professional are boldly predicting monochromatic layers for colors and fondant pink, “a pigmented pastel with an easygoing, youthful appeal,” reports Rebecca Breslin, a senior design manager with the company.

And this soft pink is the perfect partner to Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2024, Peach Fuzz. The famed color firm notes that this shade “resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

These soft hues are ideal to try in the bedroom, whether you experiment with an accent wall, use bedding or throw pillows in pink and peach tones, or lay a carpet underfoot in this range of colors.

Soft Lighting

Sleep hygiene has been a buzzy topic for a while, and most folks know that to get the most zzz’s, you need a calm, quiet, and darkened room. To achieve an optimal and restful snooze every night, jump on the dimmable and relaxing light trend for 2024.

Charlie Bowles, director at Original BTC, says wellness is still a priority for many Americans in the new year, and quality sleep plays a significant role.

In the bedroom, this means opting for adjustable lights that can be customized in terms of color temperature and intensity.

If you’re looking to improve the lighting in your bedroom, consider both task lamps at the bedside for reading and overhead dimmable ones that you can set to your liking. Gone are the days of a harsh single light on the ceiling!

Light Woods

To match the trend of soft color schemes on the wall, “light woods like ash or birch” are also gaining traction in the bedroom in 2024, says Ariel Barrionuevo, designer and manager at La Coralina Island House.

“And use these paler materials as part of a minimalist approach that emphasizes space and calmness,” Barrionuevo recommends.

A spare farmhouse design, as seen above, is one way to go. Keep your bedroom extra tidy in this case (no clutter on the accent chair).

Toile

The gurus at Houzz have put out a 2024 Furniture Trends to Watch report, and toile is one of the looks moving to the fore. Toile is defined by repeated patterns on fabric, usually of a pastoral scene.

All versions of this decorating pattern with the French moniker are fair game in the bedroom, including traditional toile and the most playful versions (think goofy scenes that make no sense but still hew to the spirit of the style).

You might choose toile linens on the bed, a toile lampshade, or toile wallpaper for your sleep space. Chinoiserie, or Chinese decorative motifs, are a cousin to toile, and they’re also making a comeback in the new year, particularly when used in a blue and white palette.

Oversized florals

When it comes to flowers in the bedroom, the bigger the blooms, the better.

The Houzz report notes that flowers have always been an in look, but the way they’re displayed now is bolder than ever before.

Huge blossoms can be found on wallpaper, comforters, and rugs, but you might also look to art to make this trend work in your bedroom. An oversized rose or daisy print framed above the bed or as a triptych can make a statement that’s easily swapped out when you’re ready for a change.
